True, plastic frames can be big and brave and a lot of fun.
But if I can be honest for just a minute, I think I'm ready to call a metal
eyeglass frame my new favorite.
You know, in the past, when you wanted a frame with paint
and puzzles, plastic was the best (and in most cases your only) option. Metal
frames had to be gold or silver or rimless, and that's it. But now metal frames
have some beautiful earphones, fantastic colors and other features that make
them fashionable.
If you are trying to make the big choice between a metal or
plastic frame, let me give you four good reasons why I think the choice of
metal can be a great idea:
1. You may need the nose pads.
If you have a small nose like mine, a metal frame with
built-in nose pads can be a great option for you. It's hard for me to hold
plastic frames in place without nostrils holding them in place.
2. The new metals are light.
Although most plastic frames are designed for light weight,
if you are looking for an extremely lightweight eyeglass frame, try some of the
new metal frames. Even at full rim, some of these frames are lighter than
plastic frames. The thin rims and smaller stirrups, together with the light
metal alloy material used for the frames, provide a feather-light feel. If you
want something even lighter, a semi-rimless metal frame is also the trick!
3. Colored metal looks good.
Are you looking for a bright and shiny colored frame? You
will find a variety of great metal frames in fantastic colors. The new metals
are red, blue, purple, pink and more, and they offer a wide variety of
combinations. I've just tried on a cool pair of blue frames that look great.
I've also noticed some great-looking leopard or cheetah prints that look crisp
and bold on a metal frame.
4. Metals are discreet.
Some of the hottest looks in today's glasses are the barely
existing ones. If the bold eyewear look does not quite match your style, a
metal frame provides the desired subtlety.
